This fully functional weather app was the culminating project of a workshop focused on advanced JavaScript techniques, real-time data integration, and modern code management. During the course, I learned to fetch and display live weather data using an external API, handle UI state changes with JavaScript, and implement smooth interface animations for an enhanced user experience. The app is responsive and optimized for both desktop and mobile devices. The project not only solidified my understanding of asynchronous programming and API integration, but also gave me hands-on experience with the professional workflow tools used by developers today—skills that bridge the gap between front-end development and real-world application delivery.
The goal of this project was to design and develop a weather app that delivers accurate, real-time weather updates in a clean, intuitive interface. I wanted to create an app that feels lightweight but powerful— easy for users to navigate, with just the right amount of information at a glance. From a development perspective, this meant integrating a live API, using JavaScript to handle dynamic UI updates, and ensuring the experience was smooth across mobile and desktop devices.
For this project, I chose Urbanist, a clean and modern sans-serif typeface from Google Fonts. Its geometric structure and high readability made it ideal for displaying weather data clearly and consistently across screen sizes. The type is set primarily in black to maintain strong contrast and legibility, especially on mobile, while color is used intentionally to draw attention to key information—blue for low temperatures and light red for highs, creating a quick visual cue without overwhelming the interface. The background features a soft linear gradient from #ffeded to #f5eaf5, creating a warm, airy feel that supports the minimal UI without distracting from the content. This palette balances functionality with visual calm, reinforcing the app’s goal of delivering useful real-time data in a way that feels approachable and refined.
This project showcases my ability to turn real-world data into an engaging user experience through thoughtful design and efficient front-end development. It reflects my growth in working with APIs, writing clean and functional JavaScript, and designing for responsiveness across devices—all while keeping usability and clarity at the forefront.
